Some actual Birmingham FM
I have to drive quite a ways to NW Alabama to visit my family on Thanksgiving. In the meantime, I listened to approximately 87 stations and an hour and a half of local radio.
I hit up 95.7, 100.5, 103.7, 105.5, 97.3, 98.1, 90.3 and 106.9.
That group consists of one pop, one alternative/indie, one hiphop/r&b, 2 lesser known country stations, one alternative rock, a classic rock station and public radio.
I will say that I was impressed with 95.7 the most today, given they they had handed over the reigns to bham.fm friend DJ Serious (who took a rare turn as a *gasp* radio disc jockey instead of mc) and he was taking requests from all over the map including but not limited to R. Kelly’s “Knockin’ the Boots”, Ceelo-riffic Goodie Mob and “My Way” era Usher.
The country actually wasn’t so bad. No really. Okay, it was… but I will say that the farther you enter into the backwoods, the more classic and better the music gets on 97.3 and 98.1. Just sayin’. Buck Owens is always a good time. Also, I can deal with some Clint Black.
103.7 was as “Secondhand Serenade” & Jason Mraz’d out as usual. Whatever works. My little sister seems to dig it. I can in miniscule and usually Rihanna-infused doses.
So, there are the highlights.
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekday drinking as much as we have been. Yay? Happy Thanksgiving!
REMEMBER: The Duke Spirit play tomorrow night with the Black Fortys and Eulogies. I’ll be there and so will Chris. Bottletree tomorrow around 8ish.
