About Us
WHITNEY SIDES MITCHELL (editor): is a Birmingham native, tv station newsie and celebrity infant who has written for most of the music sites around town already. She books local and regional shows under the BHAM.FM moniker, as well as helps out over at Skybucket Records. Her favorite bands include Interpol, Queens of the Stone Age and Pedro the Lion. She’s interviewed both local bands and national artists and takes the hearty task of editing all incoming opuses. If you’d like for your band to play a BHAM.FM show or have any general questions, Whitney’s your girl.
SAM GEORGE (editor): is the man behind The Daily Dose and the design of the site and posters. He also makes sure our shows run smoothly! He started the local music blog r3vrb before joining forces with the team here at BHAM.FM and is a fan of many things, some of which are bands, though which bands is an ever changing kaleidoscope. Some of his current favorites are Kings of Leon, The Bees, and local band The Secret Dangers. Sam is also the front man for local band Bright Henry.
CHRIS MITCHELL (photo editor): is the roving photog of the bunch. A fan of The Hold Steady, Wilco and of Montreal, he’s a skilled graphic artist and editor. He’s also from right here in Birmingham, Alabama and has a pretty cushy position in the local “gotcha” media.
ADAM MARTIN (senior writer): is an Alabama expatriate who is currently living and studying in the great state of Michigan. He’s considered the resident music mentor and general judger of hipsterness. He’s a rabid Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine and Failure fan. Also, he’ll “brb in August” and plans to get right to work making music with Whitney upon his return to Dixie.
ALEX HOLT (writer): will gladly wax nostalgic about his time spent as a “College DJ” before he graduated and became a CPA. In addition to breaking stereotypes about the Accountingprofession, his favorite bands include Lucero, Uncle Tupelo, Death Cab for Cutie, and whatever the Hood Internet release next. .
PHIL LAWLESS (senior writer): was into metal before, during, and after it was cool. He writes for MetalReviews.com. He has a normal boring job, but while he’s doing it, he’s listening to Judas Priest and carving pentagrams into his desk. At night he goes into his private metal dungeon, cranks up Pantera, and punches drywall. Right after he picks up his kid from soccer practice.
R-TIST (contributor): is our resident hip-hop encyclopedia. He’s a seasoned MC in his own right and is 1/3 of Birmingham heavyhitters The Green Seed. R-Tist is an agricultural engineer and tennis afficionado by day and masked music crusader (not to mention one hell of an entertaining writer) by night.
DANIEL DAUGHHETEE (contributor): is a lad with musical tastes far before his time. He’s the go to guy for recommendations of current derivative bands steeped in first wave punk, 80s guitar pop, and related genres. Also, he’s a cheeky librarian and hails from Indiana.
NATALIE HUMMEL (contributor): brings the feminine out in all of us. Even if it makes us uncomfortable with ourselves. She’s a local film maven and listens to some of the most breathy, cinematic, internet-radioish stuff out there. She lives and works in the heart of the Magic City, but calls our fair state’s capital city of Montgomery home.

GEORGE ATKINSON (photog): is a fancy post-suburbanite med school student with a penchant for coffee shops and hangin’ in his swank house with his cool roommate. Yes, I’m jealous. Anyway, he’s got impeccable taste in vinyl, as well as local acts so it’s always great to shoot with him. [x]
TONY DILIBERTO (photog): is an all around great dude and even funner guy in person. He’s all about getting the right shot with his fancy camera. Also, he has a garage devoted entirely to his scooter. I KNOW — it’s awesome! [x]
ARIK SOKOL (photog): is a local celebrity. When I say that, i mean MAYJAH. He’s a film/tv producer with the social calendar to match. He shoots for a local alt. weekly and a few sites as well. If you need something, call this dude. Also, I’m going to go hide because he told me not to say that. [x] Check out one of Arik’s photos as the cover for the Birmingham Weekly.
