Worm Moon Waning Review

Thursday, April 8th, 2010

Hey all! I know it’s been pretty dormant around here lately. We’ve all collectively had some “stuff” going on. Never the less, I have news! My review of Through The Sparks new album Worm Moon Waning is in the issue of The Birmingham Weekly hitting newsstands today. Grab a copy or check it out online here.

The Dose: BHAM Goes To SXSW 2 (Part 2)

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Alright folks, if you missed last weeks benefit show at Bottletree, than here is your second chance to help out some local bands show off at SXSW.

Jody Nelson (of Through The Sparks) / Rubys / Brad Armstrong (of 13 Ghosts) @ Rojo

Time: 8PM

This show should be a nice change of pace. Rojo’s side room is a very intimate venue, so come get personal with a few good tunesmiths. If nothing else, Rojo is the jam when it comes to vittles.

The Dose: BHAM Goes to SXSW 2

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

I can’t believe it’s been a year since we sponsored the first BHAM Goes To SXSW benefit show, and yet here we are. Granted we’re a handful of festivals and venues short, but we still have great bands and we want to show them off. Here’s the first in a series of concerts that will help raise money to send Birmingham musicians to the SXSW festival in Austin:

Vulture Whale / Delicate Cutters / Nightmare Waterfall / Taylor Hollingsworth @ Bottletree

Cover: $8 (Buy Tix)

Time: 8PM (Sharp!)

This is a great local line-up with some usual culprits, and a few left hooks. Nightmare Waterfall seem to be the new Bottletree favorites, and are opening for the much anticipated Man Or Astro-Man? show there on March 6th. This is a worthy cause, people! We’ve been looking weak as a music city lately and we need to send our best to REPRESENT amidst the teeming biomass that is about to invade Austin. I’ll see you there my fine feathered friends!

The Dose: Barton Carroll

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Local label Skybucket Records has an interesting fella playing in town tonight:

Barton Carroll / Assembly of the Ear / Deadfingers @ O Kafes

Cover: $5
Time: 9 PM

This is more of a Sunday type of a show, relaxed and soothing, but it’s a rainy Saturday and that’s the next best thing. If Barton’s not enough to draw you out, check out Deadfingers (Kate Taylor and Taylor Hollingsworth, two local notables in their own right).

The Dose: Contra Release Party

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Without a doubt, this is the place to be tonight. Not that there aren’t good shows tonight, but Bottletree’s free shindig in honor of Vampire Weekend’s sophomore release is gonna be a blast, with a high probability of acquiring cool junk. You might even win free tickets to a Vampire Weekend show that’s happening on down the road. Have fun!

Time: 8PM
Cover: FREE (Plus you might leave with an autographed poster or something)

Daily Dose: J. Tillman

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

Let the pre-Thanksgiving fret fest begin! Do I have the Cranberry goo? Did I remember to hide the unmentionables? What is her freaking name again?! Settle down already and suck on this:

J. Tillman (Fleet Foxes) / Pearly Gate Music @ Bottletree

Cover: $12 (Buy Tix)
Time: 8 PM

Soothing, no? Now that you are sufficiently calm, I think it would be appropriate to tell you that Mom and Dad got a secret divorce, they’re both coming to dinner and there very well might be a brawl.
